Is Everything Illusion?

Most people think illusion means something does not exist. But that is not true. Illusion is not about “nothing”—it is about misunderstanding reality.
We often believe that what we see and feel is absolute truth. But in many cases, it is only our interpretation.
The Illusion of Permanence
Take the human body as an example. We feel that our body is stable and permanent. But in reality, it is constantly changing. Every cell in the body is continuously renewing itself.
Your face today is not the same as it was in your childhood. And it will not remain the same as you grow older. Yet, you still identify yourself as the same unchanging person.
This is illusion—not because you don’t exist, but because your understanding of “unchanging” is not accurate.
The Mirage of Perception
Imagine driving on a highway and seeing water in the distance. As you get closer, the water disappears. This is a mirage.
The experience felt real, but the perception was misleading.
In the same way, our senses often show us appearances rather than deeper truth.
The Limits of the Senses
Our senses are powerful, but they are also limited:
The eyes see form, but not the deeper reality
The ears hear sound, but miss the silence behind it
The nose senses fragrance, but not its source
The tongue experiences taste, but not its essence
The hands feel objects, but not the underlying unity
Because of this, we often mistake appearance for truth.
Everything Changes
Even things that seem permanent, like mountains, are constantly changing over time. But we perceive them as fixed and unchanging.
In the same way, our idea of ourselves can also be limited by how we perceive and interpret reality.
Moving Beyond Illusion
Illusion does not mean that life is false. It means that our understanding can be incomplete.
When we begin to observe more deeply and question our assumptions, we develop clarity. With clearer understanding, we move beyond illusion and begin to understand ourselves and the world in a more meaningful way.
